Nepal has won for the second time in a row in the ongoing SAFF Championship Football in Maldives.
In the match played on Monday night, Nepal defeated Sri Lanka by 3-2 and got their second consecutive victory.
Suman Lama, Anjan Bista and Ayush Ghalan scored a goal each in Nepal’s victory. For Sri Lanka, Marvin Hamilton and Dillon De Silva scored a goal each.
Suman scored in the 33rd minute of the exciting match to give Nepal an early lead. This is his debut goal for Nepal.
In the 46th minute, Anjan’s free kick from 25 yards out was saved by Sri Lankan goalkeeper and captain Sujan Perera. But Anjan scored in the 51st minute to give Nepal a 2-0 lead.
In the 57 th minute of the match, Nepal defender Suman Aryal saved the shot of Sri Lanka’s Kavindu Ishan from the goal line.
However, Hamilton scored from 25 yards out in the 57th minute to make it 2-1.
Ayush wasted the opportunity to score in the 67th minute of the match. Manish Dangi’s pass was saved by Sri Lankan goalkeeper Sujan.
In the 74th minute of the match, Manish Dangi scored a goal with the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation.
Immediately in the 75th minute, the unmarked Ayush head strike on Anjan’s cross could not take the direction of the post.
In the 77 th minute of the match, Sri Lanka’s De Silva’s shot was saved by Nepal’s goalkeeper and captain Kiran Chemjong.
Ayush, who entered the field as a converted player in the 86th minute, scored a goal to give Nepal a 3-1 lead. This is his first goal for Nepal.
After that, De Silva scored a goal from the penalty spot during the injury time of the game but Nepal won the match by 3-2.
With this victory, Nepal has risen to the top of the table. Nepal has added 6 points in 2 games. After the second consecutive victory, Nepal is close to the final.
Nepal had defeated Maldives 1-0 in the first match. This is Sri Lanka’s second consecutive defeat.
In the first match, Sri Lanka lost 1-0 to Bangladesh. Sri Lanka’s final journey has been weakened by two consecutive defeats.
Now, Nepal will compete against India in the third match next Sunday.
Similarly, Nepal will play against Bangladesh in the final match of the league stage on October 27 (Ashok 27).
Five nations are participating in this year’s SAFF Championship. This time the organizers are Maldives, Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. All five teams will play against each other in the league.
The top two teams will compete for the title after the league stage match.
