Lukaku double secures Nations League Finals spot

Belgium survived a scare against Denmark to secure their place in the Nations League Finals as winners of Group A2.

Lukaku reached 57 goals for his country with two clinical finishes, while Youri Tielemans delivered yet another excellent performance rewarded by a goal. The Leicester midfielder also created his team’s second goal when Denmark threatened to pull ahead following Jonas Wind’s equaliser.

Youri Tielemans broke deadlock after only three minutes.

Jonas Wind levelled in a first half in which the visitors were the more threatening side, but when Kasper Schmeichel could not quite do enough to deny Lukaku 57 minutes in, the contest was effectively settled.

Lukaku nodded in his second and Belgium’s third 12 minutes later to make certain of the victory and reach 57 goals for his country, including six in his past four appearances.

A late aberration from Courtois gifted Denmark a second but Kevin De Bruyne struck an immediate reply to quash any fear of a late comeback.

With the victory, Belgium has added 15 points in 6 games and made it to the next stage of the competition.

Belgium will now play France, Italy and Spain in the finals. The finals will be played in October 2021.

Denmark finished second with 10 points from six games.
