Atletico Madrid failed to score & settled a goalless draw

Luis Suarez made his first home start for Atletico Madrid, yet the striker could not inspire his new side against Villarreal.

Atletico Madrid had to settle for a second successive 0-0 draw in LaLiga as they were held at home by Villarreal on Saturday.

The former Barcelona and Liverpool man came closest to breaking the deadlock, but found himself thwarted by in-form goalkeeper Sergio Asenjo.

Diego Costa arrived to provide late firepower from the bench and twice came close to snatching a late winner but on both occasions failed to convert Yannick Carrasco’s crosses into the box.

Villarreal could also have found a late goal in an end-to-end finish, as forward Gerard Moreno volleyed narrowly wide.
