Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has been rewarded for his outstanding season on and off the pitch by being named the FWA Footballer of the Year for 2019/20.
He becomes the 12th Liverpool player to claim the individual prize and the first since Mohamed Salah just two years ago.
The Liverpool skipper lifted the English Premier League trophy earlier this week to cap off an incredible campaign for the club, ending a 30-year wait since their last league title in 1990.
Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who has recorded 19 assists, and Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, who successfully lobbied the government to help feed children in struggling families, were other strong contenders for the honour. Liverpool stars Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alisson Becker also received votes.
The Belgian star J. Henderson has enjoyed a fine campaign despite City’s struggles, returning a haul of 11 goals and 22 assists so far.
